Importing from Substack
Substack offers the most complete import experience — you can bring over both your posts and your subscribers.Option 1: Full import (posts + subscribers)
- Export your data from Substack: go to your Substack dashboard, open Settings → Exports, and request a full export. Substack will email you a ZIP file.
- In LetterBucket, select Substack and upload the ZIP file.
- LetterBucket will extract your posts and subscribers from the archive.
- You’ll see a list of posts ready for import. Review them, select which ones to import, and confirm.
- The import runs in the background — you’ll see a progress indicator. Once complete, you’ll see a summary of what was imported.
Option 2: Subscribers only
If you only want to import your subscriber list (not your posts):- Export your subscribers from Substack as a CSV file.
- Select Substack and choose the CSV subscribers only option.
- Upload the CSV file.
- Review the subscriber count and confirm the import.
Importing from Beehiiv, Kit, or Ghost
For these platforms, select the corresponding option. The flow will guide you through exporting from the source platform and uploading the file to LetterBucket.Import formats and available data vary by platform. Posts are imported as drafts so you can review and edit them before publishing.
After importing
- Posts arrive as drafts. Review each one in the Posts section before publishing.
- Subscribers are added to your list immediately and can be viewed in Subscribers.
- Imported subscribers are not sent any emails automatically — no welcome email is triggered by an import.
